Endowed Chair in Conducting

Created in 1998, the Elmer Iseler Chair in Conducting anchors U of T’s graduate programs in choral and orchestral conducting at the Faculty of Music. Through research and teaching, the chair has a tremendous impact on conducting studies in Canada. A generous gift from U of T alumni Elfrieda and Vern Heinrichs, along with matching funds from U of T, endowed the chair, the first in Canada devoted to conducting. It was established in memory of the late Elmer Iseler, Canada’s pre-eminent choral conductor and one of U of T’s most distinguished graduates.
